About this role

Accountabilities: Define and execute the overall QA automation strategy, establishing scalable frameworks, tools, testing standards, and quality gates for a live mobile game. Build and lead an automation engineering team, overseeing recruitment, team structure, onboarding, mentorship, performance development, and career progression. Design, develop, and implement automated testing solutions covering UI, API, integration, regression, end-to-end, mobile, and live-operations workflows. Assess and select automation frameworks, platforms, traditional testing solutions, and AI-assisted tools based on their effectiveness, scalability, maintainability, and business value. Establish automation architecture, coding standards, reporting mechanisms, observability practices, and quality metrics to support continuous delivery. Collaborate with Engineering and QA teams to improve testability, prioritize automation initiatives, integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, and embed quality checks into the development lifecycle. Provide hands-on technical leadership through framework development, prototyping, code reviews, automation implementation, and test-script creation. Mentor manual QA professionals in programming and automation, helping them develop the technical skills needed to contribute to automated testing initiatives. Define and monitor key quality indicators, including test coverage, execution time, test stability, flakiness, and defect detection effectiveness. Communicate quality risks, automation progress, and resource requirements to stakeholders across Product, Live Operations, Marketing, Customer Support, Localization, and external development partners. Champion release excellence and a proactive quality culture, ensuring automation complements exploratory and risk-based testing rather than replacing it. Requirements: At least 8 years of professional experience in QA, test automation, or quality engineering, including 4+ years of experience leading or building automation teams. Demonstrated experience developing automation strategies, frameworks, tooling, and infrastructure for complex software products, ideally from the ground up. Strong background in evaluating automation technologies, integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, and supporting frequent production releases. Hands-on programming experience in one or more languages, with C# considered a strong advantage. Solid understanding of software testing methodologies, automation architecture, coding standards, software development lifecycles, and testability principles. Proven ability to mentor manual testers and support their transition into coding, automation, and automated test-script development. Experience aligning Engineering and QA teams around shared quality ownership, automation adoption, and continuous improvement. Familiarity with mobile testing environments and both traditional and AI-assisted testing solutions. Experience with test management systems, defect tracking platforms, source control, build systems, CI/CD tools, and release management processes. Strong leadership, communication, analytical, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to coordinate distributed teams effectively. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying quality risks and driving technical improvements. Additional assets: Previous experience working on live mobile games, free-to-play titles, or core gaming products. Familiarity with mobile device farms, emulators, simulators, and cloud-based device testing platforms. Experience testing products developed with Unity, Unreal Engine, or other game development technologies. Knowledge of API, backend services, data, performance, load, and reliability testing automation. Experience automating live events, remote configurations, experimentation, monetization systems, and service-driven game features. Familiarity with AI-powered test generation, test maintenance, visual validation, defect triage, and code-assistance solutions. Experience building automation metrics, quality dashboards, and engineering quality gates. Previous collaboration with external development studios and international engineering teams. Benefits: Opportunity to lead and build a QA automation function from the ground up. Remote working opportunities across the United States and Canada, with a hybrid option available in Culver City. The chance to contribute to an upcoming AAA mobile gaming project. A strategic leadership position with significant influence over engineering quality standards, automation architecture, and release processes. Opportunities to work with modern automation frameworks, emerging AI-assisted testing technologies, and scalable development infrastructure. Collaborative, cross-functional environment involving Engineering, QA, Product, and Live Operations teams. Professional development opportunities through team leadership, technical innovation, and organizational impact.
