About this role

Accountabilities: Lead technically complex geotechnical engineering projects across infrastructure, transportation, energy, and commercial development sectors, ensuring high standards of technical quality and project execution. Oversee subsurface investigations, geotechnical analyses, foundation evaluations, advanced modeling, and engineering design recommendations. Develop innovative, practical, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions for challenging soil conditions, ground improvement requirements, and soil-structure interaction. Review and approve geotechnical reports, engineering calculations, technical specifications, and other project deliverables, serving as a senior technical reviewer and, where applicable, Engineer of Record. Manage multidisciplinary project teams, coordinate technical resources, and oversee project budgets, schedules, quality control, and overall performance. Build and maintain strategic relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and industry partners to support long-term collaboration and successful project delivery. Lead or support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, contract negotiations, and pursuit of major engineering projects. Identify opportunities to expand geotechnical engineering services and strengthen market presence across the Midwest. Mentor, train, and develop junior and mid-level engineers, promoting technical knowledge sharing, professional development, and consistent engineering best practices. Collaborate with regional leadership and engineering teams to enhance technical capabilities, contribute to research initiatives, and support company-wide engineering standards. Represent the engineering practice at industry conferences, professional associations, and networking events to strengthen professional relationships and share technical expertise. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, engineering standards, safety requirements, and quality assurance procedures across office, laboratory, and field activities. Travel to project sites, client locations, and regional offices as needed, following established safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field is strongly preferred. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required. At least eight years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience, including a minimum of three years in a senior or technical leadership position. Extensive knowledge of subsurface investigations, foundation engineering, geotechnical analysis, engineering design, and the evaluation of complex site conditions. Demonstrated expertise in advanced geotechnical modeling, soil-structure interaction, and ground improvement technologies. Proven experience leading large-scale, technically demanding projects and delivering high-quality engineering solutions within established budgets and schedules. Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, allocating resources, coordinating technical activities, and maintaining rigorous quality standards. Strong client relationship management and business development capabilities, including proposal preparation, contract negotiations, and identifying opportunities for service growth. Experience serving as an Engineer of Record or senior technical reviewer is an advantage. A background in major infrastructure, transportation, energy, or complex commercial projects is preferred. Established professional relationships within the Midwest engineering and construction market are beneficial. Active participation in professional organizations such as ASCE, the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), or the Geo-Institute is preferred. Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to clients and multidisciplinary teams. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, operational teams, and clients across multiple locations. Willingness to travel up to approximately 20% of the time, potentially on short notice, to support client engagements and project requirements. Ability to work in outdoor, laboratory, and construction environments when required, including exposure to uneven or rugged terrain, dust, noise, chemicals, and changing weather conditions. Physical ability to perform applicable fieldwork, including prolonged standing and walking, operating field equipment, and lifting or carrying materials weighing approximately 35–75 pounds, as required by project activities. Commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and the consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Benefits: Remote or hybrid work flexibility, depending on location, project requirements, and business needs. Senior-level technical leadership opportunities across major infrastructure, transportation, energy, and commercial projects. Professional growth and development through complex engineering assignments, technical collaboration, and continued learning. Mentorship and leadership opportunities to develop engineering talent and contribute to regional technical excellence. Client engagement and business development exposure, with opportunities to strengthen industry relationships and influence project strategy. Professional networking opportunities through industry conferences, engineering associations, and technical initiatives. Regional collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams and access to technical resources across established offices. Opportunity to contribute to industry best practices, engineering standards, research initiatives, and innovative geotechnical solutions. Compensation and benefits package: Salary range, healthcare coverage, retirement plans, paid time off, and other employee benefits were not specified in the provided job description and should be confirmed during the recruitment process.
