AECOM's Municipal Roads Group in Burnaby is seeking a Junior Municipal Civil Designer / Engineer-in-Training to support the planning and design of municipal infrastructure across Metro Vancouver.Our group delivers road rehabilitation and reconstruction, active transportation and transit-supportive infrastructure, and water, sanitary, and drainage servicing for municipal clients throughout the Lower Mainland. You will work directly alongside experienced Project Engineers, Project Managers, and senior Designers, and you'll see projects through the full lifecycle -from concept and functional design, through detailed design and tender, into construction support.This is a role built for someone in the first few years of their career who wants to become genuinely good at municipal design. You will be given real design work, real mentorship, and a clear path toward professional registration.What you'll doDesign productionPrepare municipal civil design drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including alignments, profiles, corridors, surfaces, grading, and cross-sectionsDevelop designs for road reconstruction and rehabilitation, intersection improvements, curb and sidewalk works, accessible pedestrian ramps, and active transportation facilitiesDesign water distribution, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems, including pipe networks, service connections, and appurtenancesPerform routine engineering calculations and analysis-pipe sizing and capacity checks, hydrology and minor stormwater management, roadway geometrics, and drainage designIdentify and resolve utility conflicts, and support coordination with utility owners and third-party stakeholdersCompile and review existing records, as-builts, survey data, and utility records to establish base plansDocumentation and deliveryPrepare quantity take-offs and construction cost estimatesAssist in assembling tender packages, including drawings, specifications, and contract documentsContribute to technical memoranda, design briefs, options analyses, and engineering reportsSupport municipal permitting and approval submissionsApply AECOM's Quality Management System (QMS) procedures to all deliverables, and incorporate review comments from senior staffField and construction supportAttend site visits to gather data, verify existing conditions, and support design decisionsProvide construction-phase support including responses to RFIs, shop drawing review, site inspection, and assistance with progress claims and change documentationWorking as part of the teamPerform defined portions of larger assignments under the direction of an experienced engineer, with moderate supervisionDeliver assigned work within agreed budget and schedule, and flag discrepancies or issues earlyCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams across transportation, water, environment, structures, and geotechnicalParticipate in client and stakeholder meetings, and support engagement material preparation Minimum requirementsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institutionRegistered, or immediately eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or as an AScT / C.Tech. with ASTTBC2+ years of municipal civil design experience in a consulting or municipal environment (relevant co-op and internship terms count toward this)Working proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3DValid BC Class 5 driver's licence and access to a vehiclePreferred qualifications Working knowledge of MMCD design and construction documents, and familiarity with CCDC contractsFamiliarity with Metro Vancouver municipal design standards and supplementary specifications (City of Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, New Westminster, North Vancouver, and similar)Familiarity with the TAC Geometric Design Guide and B.C. Supplement to TAC, the BC Active Transportation Design Guide, and MUTCDCDemonstrated Civil 3D depth-corridor modelling, assemblies and subassemblies, surface creation from survey data, pipe and pressure networks, and plan/profile sheet productionExposure to hydraulic or hydrologic modelling software (PCSWMM, InfoWorks ICM, WaterCAD/WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS)Experience with quantity take-offs and construction cost estimatingField experience- construction inspection, materials testing, or contract administrationFamiliarity with erosion and sediment control requirements and municipal environmental permittingWorking knowledge of ArcGIS or QGISStrong technical writing skills and comfort preparing reports and memorandaActively pursuing P.Eng. licensure with EGBC, including competency reportingStrong communication and teamwork skills.Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.Attention to detail and quality control.Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
