Job DescriptionPrivate Clients manages over R80 billion globally for high-net-worth individuals, families and entrepreneurs, solving complex investment and wealth challenges across generations. This is a role for an exceptional early-career Industrial Engineer who wants to apply systems thinking, quantitative modelling and AI to real investment and operating problems — and see their work used in practice. We operate at the intersection of:• Investments and portfolio management• Quantitative modelling and decision science• Technology, AI and data systems• Operational optimisation and process engineering• Complex real-world problem-solving As our business evolves, we are increasingly leveraging AI, advanced analytics and automation to improve how we invest, manage portfolios, serve clients and run the platform. This is not a support role. You will work on high-impact problems, build tools, improve decision quality, and help scale how the business operates.Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:Application Software DevelopmentDevelop existing applications and contribute to development of new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement. Develop new routine applications to meet customer requirements.Applications Software MaintenanceMonitor, identify, and correct more complex software defects to maintain fully functioning applications software.Design and ConceptualizationProduce multiple concepts and prototypes to design digital products/services.Technical Developments RecommendationDiscuss and recommend technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/applications software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.Application Software Road MapContribute to and maintain a roadmap to facilitate application software development and ensure the development work is prioritized in line with business requirements.Faults Diagnosis and CorrectionProvide fault isolation and resolution to limit and address issues promptly.DocumentationCreate and maintain complex technical and/or user documentation to a high standard.Testing Information Technology (IT) PerformanceDesign and perform website/applications software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues.Operational ComplianceMaintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards.Identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.Information SecurityImplement required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption, and provide input on their design, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.Horizon ScanningExplore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.Data Collection and AnalysisConduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be"Document "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required.Technical Database SupportDesign distribution of basic database resources and provide physical modeling and design services to tune database applications for optimum performance.AI & Intelligent SystemsSupport AI integration across investment research (including screening tools), portfolio management and operations.Identify practical AI use cases and help deploy decision-support tool.Explore automation that improves efficiency, insight and client outcomes.Quantitative & Analytical SupportSupport model development and quantitative analysis across investment workstreams.Assist with data modelling, forecasting, optimisation and analytical problem-solving.Work with financial datasets to generate insight and improve decisions.Support modelling initiatives in Bloomberg and related platforms.Process & Systems InnovationAnalyse workflows and identify redesign and optimisation opportunities.Build dashboards and reporting tools that improve scalability and decision-making.Support data-driven decision-making across business and investment functions.These responsibilities offer an overview of the role and are not confined or restricted solely to what is listed.Qualifications and Experience required:NQF 7Industrial Engineering graduate (Preferred)Strong Python capabilityStrong quantitative and analytical abilityCurious and creative in applying AI and technology to real-world challengesCommercially aware, with an interest in financial markets and wealth managementHighly driven, self-starting and intellectually ambitiousComfortable in complex, ambiguous environmentsAlways looking for smarter, faster ways of doing things SkillsAction Planning, Application Development, Business Process Design, Computer Literacy, Data Management, Data Modeling, Evaluating Information, Identifying Customer Needs, Information Technology (IT) Support, Market Analysis, Oral Communications, Product Development, Technical Support, Technical Troubleshooting, Test Case Management, User Requirements Documentation, Web DevelopmentCompetenciesBusiness InsightCollaboratesCommunicates EffectivelyCourageCultivates InnovationDecision QualityDrives ResultsEnsures AccountabilityEducationNQF Level 7 - Degree, Advance Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate or equivalentClosing Date05 November 2026 , 23:59The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Plan of Old Mutual South Africa and the specific business unit in question.The Old Mutual Story!
